Batali Hill is the highest hill in the city of Chittagong, Bangladesh. The hill is about 280 feet high.

Location:

It is located near the Tiger Pass crossing, about 1 kilometre from the zero point of the city. A road went right up to the top of the Batali Hill by the side of Fahim Music which is to the north of Ispahani Crossing in the Lalkhan Bazar area of Chittagong city. This road ran behind the magistrate colony.

Description:

Batali Hill is also known as 'Jilapi Pahar'. Jilapi is a popular sweet in Bangladesh with lots of turns. The hilly road to Batali Hill also looks like jilapi, that's why it is called 'Jilapi Pahar'. You will feel great while climbing up the hill.

Reaching the top of Batali Hill, you can take rest for some time. The highest peak is called the ‘Shatayu Aungan’. From the peak of the Batali Hill, one can have a bird’s eye view of the city. A large number of people ascend to the top of the hill to breathe in fresh air and to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the sunset in the Bay of Bengal. Long ago, there was a lighthouse on the Batali Hill for directing the ships in the remote sea. During the Second World War, a cannon was placed at the top of the Batali Hill.

From last 2003 to 2005, around 12,500 trees of different species were planted at Batali hill under the supervision of Bangladesh Police. These trees include olive, jackfruit, blackberry, litchi, orange, mango, saffron, sandalwood, caffeine, arjuna. It is to be noted that, Batali Hill is the property of the Public Works Department of Bangladesh Government. The office of the Public Works Ministry and several bungalows are there on the top of the hill.
