History

In 1988, MA Mannan, former Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram and some other elites of city initially took initiatives to set up a zoo at Foy’s lake for the purpose of recreation, education and research on zoo animals. Later on February 28, 1989, this zoo was opened to the public. At the beginning, there was a chance to visit the zoo and Foy’s Lake with a single ticket. But in 1995, zoo authorities arranged for separate ticket at the entrance of the zoo considering the convenience of the visitors and the additional profit associated with it. At the opening of the Zoo in 1989, the price of the ticket was Tk 2. Later the price of the ticket was increased to Tk 2. As the number of animals and birds increased, the price of the ticket was increased too. At present, each ticket costs Tk 30.
